Fans have been clamoring for some time now for Marvel to get some of their properties back from various studios with the success of The Avengers to bring these characters into the Marvel movie universe. It now appears one such hero will be coming home to Marvel without the studio even having to open its wallet.<\/p>\n
After a series of tweets from director Joe Carnahan, it appears Fox will no longer be developing its reboot of the Daredevil movie series. With that, the timeframe on the rights will have lapsed and the property will now go back into the hands of Marvel and Disney who would have the option to introduce the Man Without Fear into their current cinematic universe alongside their main heroes of Iron Man, Thor, Captain America and so forth.<\/p>\n
The director also made comments on a recent radio appearance on how he wanted to pattern the film after\u00a0Frank Miller\u2019s \u201cBorn Again\u201d storyline.<\/p>\n
\u201cI was brought in pretty late in the game, and my take probably didn\u2019t help matters since they had an existing script. But I just thought that if you were going to do it, this was the way to go. This is the way that intrigued me\u2026It was initially something I passed on because Christopher Nolan had done such a lovely job with Batman and unless you\u2019re going to go after that trilogy, then that\u2019s how you have to think. You can\u2019t out-hurdle that, then what\u2019s the point of trying? So it set the bar extraordinarily high, and I thought \u2018Well, if we\u2019re going to do this, let\u2019s have a discussion about Hell\u2019s Kitchen, and how it was really Hell\u2019s Kitchen in the 70s,\u201d so that got me really excited. But as I mentioned, the clock ticking and this kind of October drop-dead date, it wasn\u2019t tenable. And having gone down this road in the past when you\u2019re trying to write something and shoot it at the same time is disastrous, and I think you\u2019d need an adequate amount of time to put that script together in the right way. My brother [Matthew Michael Carnahan (The Kingdom)] was interested in writing it with me, so we\u2019ll see.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cAs I\u2019m finishing my kind of reimagining of Death Wish, I think the 70s is figuring into my conscious and subconscious mind right now. I think it was the last time music and movies were just tremendous. We just cranked out some great stuff. I think that\u2019s why the sizzle reel is able to be kind of abstract because people have such great fondness in their hearts for that decade, particularly the early part of that decade. I\u2019m excited; you know the idea of having Daredevil on top of a building somewhere with the Serpico marquee in the background was enough, that image was enough, for me to want to make the movie.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
