Sony Computer Entertainment has released an official statement addressing the PS3 and its ability to be hacked. The statement urges gamers to “immediately cease use and remove all circumvention devices and delete all unauthorized or pirated software from their PlayStation 3 systems.” Sony is currently fighting several legal battles against the hackers who figured out how to access the key and against hacker GeoHot who posted a “How To” YouTube video explaining how to get around the PS3’s security settings themselves.<\/p>\n

Important Access to the PlayStation Network and Access to Qriocity Services Notice<\/em><\/p>\n

Unauthorized circumvention devices for the PlayStation 3 system have been recently released by hackers.<\/em><\/p>\n

These devices permit the use of unauthorized or pirated software. Use of such devices or software violates the terms of the \u201cSystem Software License Agreement for the PlayStation 3 System\u201d and the \u201cTerms of Services and User Agreement\u201d for the PlayStation Network\/Qriocity and its Community Code of Conduct provisions.<\/em><\/p>\n

Violation of the System Software Licence Agreement for the PlayStation 3 System invalidates the consumer guarantee for that system. In addition, copying or playing pirated software is a violation of International Copyright Laws.<\/em><\/p>\n

Consumers using circumvention devices or running unauthorized or pirated software will have access to the PlayStation Network and access to Qriocity services through PlayStation 3 System terminated permanently.<\/em><\/p>\n

To avoid this, consumers must immediately cease use and remove all circumvention devices and delete all unauthorized or pirated software from their PlayStation 3 systems.<\/em><\/p>\n
