Well that didn’t take long. Before it could even get off the ground, Netflix has already dropped their planned separate DVD service Qwikster. Now both DVD and instant streaming will remain under one roof at Netflix.<\/p>\n

Netflix CEO Reed Hastings announced the change Monday via Netflix\u2019s blog, stating, \u201cIt is clear that for many of our members two websites would make things more difficult, so we are going to keep Netflix as one place to go for streaming and DVDs. This means no change: one website, one account, one password\u2026 in other words, no Qwikster.\u201d<\/p>\n

It was also announced that the company is \u201cdone with price changes\u201d after its decision to raise prices in July. While understandable, many customers were very much outraged by the price increase.<\/p>\n

The one question I have is will Netflix continue on with a video game distribution service. That was one of the reasons for the split to separate entities. Qwikster service would have also began mailing out video games to customers. Will that plan continue under the unified Netflix? That is one service I would like to see still implemented. I know there are services such as GameFly available, but I really do not want to pay for another service. I would be fine paying a few more dollars for Netflix if I can get video games as well.<\/p>\n

Personally, I believe Netflix needs to expand into the game market. It would help justify their mailing system. If that doesn’t happen I still believe Netflix needs to drop their mailing service. The price increases were most likely implemented to help offset rising shipping costs. Cutting to a streaming only system would save Netflix the cost of all that shipping and maintaining a physical inventory. Plus it would allow more capital to purchase more content to be available via streaming.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
