Nintendo Announces No DVD Or Blu-ray For Wii U

Nintendo President Satoru Iwata made the announcement that there will be no DVD or Blu-ray playback support for the Wii U.

Given that the company has never supported either options with previous consoles, this may not be a total shock to hear, Iwata gave several reasons as to why the decision was made. Most Nintendo gamers already have a DVD and/or Blu-Ray device in their homes. Nintendo also opted out of the licensing fees they would have to pay if they did decide to support DVD/Blu-ray playback.

Were you hoping for a DVD/Blu-ray compatibility with Wii U? Let us know what you think of Nintendo’s decision.
