Movie Review: The LEGO Movie

2014 will bring a number of movies to the big screen. Many will be filled with action. Some will pull at your heart strings. Some will make you laugh. A few will build family memories for years to come. One movie does all of those. That movie is The LEGO Movie.

Emmet, who is the epitome of your standard LEGO, is a by the book kinda guy. That book is the instruction book. Very little imagination to his credit and all the personality of a brick, Emmet is so go with the flow, not many people even know he exists let alone work with them. A fate encounter leads Emmet on a journey that will change his perspective and that of those he meets.

The movie is an early nod to be included on many people’s top 10 lists for the year. The film has great comedic moments, great interactions with the characters and larger than life action that can only come from the mind of a LEGO enthusiast.

The ending (which I won’t go into detail about) truly makes the movie stand out. It is a fitting conclusion and really drives home what playing with LEGOs is all about. It’s about being creative and enjoying that with the ones you love.

The LEGO Movie is very well done. Crisp animation and stellar voices with a lot of fun celebrity cameos makes this a movie that will be enjoyed for some time to come. You will definitely want to check this one out.
