Good Clean Fun: Marc With A C Sings The Monkees

This review may come with a bit of bias or a bit of ignorance. It’s hard to not love any project that Marc With A C comes out with. His latest is a cover album of songs from The Monkees. With the recent passing of Davy Jones, talk of the popular 60s band has been highly renewed and the album comes out at an unfortunately well timed place in time. Of course the bias in this review is that I love the work of Marc With A C. The ignorance of this review comes in the fact that I have never heard a single song by The Monkees before listening to this album.

The ten track tribute album, Good Clean Fun: Marc With a C Sings The Monkees,  is an absolutely fun album. The songs are very catchy and Marc’s singing style really blends well with material. The songs run the gamut of pace, lyrical depth, and musical style that are well known to be seen on any of Marc’s previous releases. There is definitely something on this album for everyone.

Marc really brings this album to life as he’s an outspoken fan of the band. That really shows in the treatment he gives the songs on this album. The album also succeeds on another level.  What it also does is makes me want to go back and listen to some of the original work from The Monkees. That in my book, constitutes a successful cover album. If you can make someone want to search out the works of a band they’ve never heard by listening to your cover album, you’ve done an incredible job. My hat’s off to ya , Marc.

I can’t recommend this album enough. Definitely pick this one up. You can download the album at Marc’s bandcamp page.
