Wrasslin Review: Elimination Chamber 2014

The Road To Wrestlemania takes one final stop on PPV before the big dance. With over a month before Wrestlemania, The Elimination Chamber was primed to determine the World Champion heading into the biggest wrestling event of the year.

The opening contest saw Big E defend his Intercontinental Championship against Jack Swagger. The two big men went back and forth. The match was nothing special, and Big E hits the Big Ending on Swagger for the win and successfully defends his title. A decent opener for the show.

Match number 2 featured another title match. The New Age Outlaws defended the Tag Team Championship against The Usos. The two teams nave put together a decent feud so far. The end saw The Outlaws retain the belts. Hopefully this feud will continue into a match at Wrestlemania where The Usos can capitalize on their overness and get a feel good title win.

The third match of the night saw former tag team Titus O’Neil and Darren Young face off. This was kind of a boring match. The crowd let out a few chants such as “We Want Lesnar” and other things to show they were not into this one. Titus get the pin and the win to keep momentum going for his heel turn. I’m not a big fan of either of these guys. Nothing special here.

The next match was in my opinion, match of the night. The six man tag between The Wyatt Family and The Shield was a very good match. Both teams used their unique styles to put on a great match. Both teams are among the best in WWE and this match showed why. An eventual game of attrition left Roman Reigns to fend off three Wyatts at the end. In the end, it wasn’t enough and Reigns was pinned after taking Sister Abigail’s Kiss from Bray. Both teams looked great and Roman Reigns looked like a beast for his eventual face turn. Hes getting great crowd reaction. The turn is burning nice and slow right now.

AJ Lee defeated Cameron to retain the Divas Championship. Naomi was originally slated for this match, but is currently out with an eye injury. Tamina accidentally knocked out AJ then attacked Cameron to give her the DQ win.

Batista defeated a surprisingly over Alberto Del Rio. This wasn’t more than a glorified squash match. The fans are not into Batsita’s return (or as they refer to him “Boo-Tista”). Del Rio was kinda of the defacto face in this one.

The Elimination Chamber match rounded out the show. Cesaro and Sheamus started the contest and put on a brawling clinic. The rest of the entry order was Daniel Bryan, Christian, John Cena, then Randy Orton. No one was eliminated until after Orton came into the match. A frog splash from the top of the pod to Sheamus allowed Christian to score the first elimination. Christian is eliminated by Daniel’s flying knee. Cesaro tapped out to the STF. When it was down to three, the lights went out and The Wyatt Family entered the cage. They took out John Cena who was then pinned by Orton. The ending came when Kane came into the cage and distracted Daniel Bryan allowing Orton to get the pin and retain the belt.

The Chamber and the six man tag were the best matches of the night. A lot of Wrestlemania plans seem to be shaping up. This was a good show overall. It’s worth a watch.
