Food Review: Taco Bell Breakfast

A new challenger has stepped up in the fast food breakfast game. Taco Bell released their new breakfast line earlier this week. They brought a slew of items that either turned breakfast items into tacos or burritos and others that take existing Taco Bell items and exchanges the existing ingredients for breakfast items. I tried a few of these items.

The fist item I tried was the waffle taco. It combines a waffle, sausage, egg, and cheese to create a breakfast variant of the well loved taco. To be honest, this wasn’t very good. The waffle was kinda greasy and the cheese was too sharp for breakfast. The sausage was okay and the eggs were your typical fast food eggs. All combined, this just did not work. The combo also came with a hasbrown patty and choice of coffee or soda. I chose the soda and tried the Diet Mountain Dew Baja Blast. It tasted like Mountain Dew mixed with Sprite. It was okay, but not my favorite Dew product. The hashbrown patty was great. It was well cooked and crispy. This easily tops the hashbrowns served at McDonalds or Burger King. It was a pleasant surprise.

The other item I tried was the steak AM Crunchwrap. Inside the tortilla were steak, egg, cheese, a hashbrown patty and a zesty sauce. This was delicious and far superior to the waffle taco. Taco Bell took what they knew and then modified it with breakfast ingredients. I’ll definitely get this again. I still need to try the Cinnabon bites.

Overall, the Taco Bell breakfast line looks like it has some good choices in it. Avoid the waffle taco and go for the crunchwraps and burritos.
