Weird Al – “Mandatory Fun” Review

A number 1 Billboard debut, eight days of brand new music videos, and a whole lot of fun. That is the reaction that Weird Al’s newest album, “Madatory Fun” has generated.

The album, which is the last on Al’s current record deal is a head to toe winner with a bunch of great tracks. Parodying some of the hottest acts today including Pharrell, Lordes, Iggy Azalea, and Robin Thicke, Al makes popular music so much more enjoyable.

“Word Crimes” is a great put down to those that just can’t comes to grip with the English language. Al’s word advice is great coming from one who has such a way with words to create his parodies. “Sports Song” quite nicely boils down the essence of every college fight song. In Weird Al style, he creates songs from the oddest of circumstances. His song “Mission Statement” is a song formed from nothing but corporate buzzwords like synergy.

The album was released alongside a slew of music videos. Al released a new video everyday for eight straight days. The campaign went immensely viral. The buzz around the album drove massive sales of the album, which resulted in a debut a number 1 on the Billboard music charts. This is the first time in Al’s 30 plus year career that he has earned a top spot on the charts. It’s well deserved as Al delivered  great album that is a lot of fun to listen to.
