With the revelation of Pokemon Winds and Waves, the 10th generation of the thirty year gaming franchise, we have also been introduced to the three Pokemon that we will be able to select from as our starter companion. This has always been a highly contested issue throughout the years. Which starter is best? Which will help us navigate the game easily or with the most difficulty? Which starter is the coolest? It’s time to look into those questions again.
We have the usual choices this time around. As usual, we get the option to choose from a grass, water or fire type starter.
The grass type starter is Browt. He’s an irritated looking bird. You may even say he appears to be an angry bird. That was certainly the immediate reaction of the internet as the memes began to pour in after the Nintendo Direct event. To be fair, a collaboration between Pokemon and the Angry Birds franchise wouldn’t be a bad idea if it’s not already in the works. Is Angry Birds still even around? I really haven’t paid that much attention to be honest b ut the idea of a crossover is still a solid one. Hopefully the evolution isn’t just. a grass version of Blaziken, although I’m not aware of many dual Grass and Fighting type Pokemon so the combo could be fairly unique.
The second of our starters will the Water type Gecqua. The little gecko certainly appears to have some personality and charm. Initial reactions online hope that we don’t have another Intellion situation. Many online found Intellion to be okay but somewhat fragile in battle. I tend to pick water type starters frequently and I may do a run with this guy, but it’s not going to be my initial pick.
The final starter reveal is the fire type starter, Pombon. The second I saw this little guy, I knew I was going to have to buy a Switch 2 for this game. As a dog lover and someone who once had a Pomeranian, I was immediately drawn to this little ball of floof. I already know I’m picking this little doggo with his mindless, happy stare. The internet is already rife with concerns about this little fellow. Many don’t want to see another situation where we get a bipedal part Fighting type as the final evolution like with Torracat. The internet has threatened to riot if this occurs. The crowd most definitely wants him to retain dog properties and remain a quadruped. This dog deserves to remain a dog. He will definitely be my starter for this generation. There is no doubt there.
As we look forward to the next generation of Pokemon games and celebrate the 30th anniversary of the franchise, the question remains the same, who do you choose?
