First Look At Bruce Willis As A GI Joe Figure

With the upcoming release of GI Joe Retaliation this spring, of course we’ll be seeing the actors of the film getting the action figure treatment. We’ve already seen pictures of Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson.

Now at this past week’s Toy Fair, we’ve seen photos now of the whole line of figures for the toy line to accompany the movie. That includes legendary actor Bruce Willis. Willis will be in the film as Joe Coulton, the original GI Joe.

GI:Joe Retaliation, starring Bruce Willis, Dwayne Johnson, Adrianne Palicki, Channing Tatum, and Ray Park, which will be directed by Jon Chu will be released in US theaters on June 29th.

TV series ending and continuing on in comic book form is nothing new. Several of Joss Whedon’s franchises including Buffy, Angel, Firefly, and Dollhouse have all seen the comic treatment continue their stories and grow their fan bases. DC Comics is now getting in on the game. In April, DC will launch a new Smallville comic that will pick up right where the series left off. Clark is now in the suit and he is officially Superman. Smallville writer, Bryan Q. Miller will be writing the comic series.

DC released a statement with some information about the comic:

Fans of the smash-hit TV series Smallville haven’t had much to cheer about since the show ended its critically acclaimed 10-year run on The CW last May. That’s all going to change with the upcoming new comic book series from DC Entertainment: SMALLVILLE SEASON 11. Written by former Smallville show scribe Bryan Q. Miller, the new digital first series will be published digitally on April 13, 2012, with new digital chapters released weekly thereafter. Additionally, the online chapters will be offered in a print periodical, along with an episode guide to the hit television series, with the first print issue released on May 16.

The new comic book series picks-up where the show left off (with Clark officially now as Superman!) and features other fan-favorite characters including Oliver Queen/Green Arrow, Chloe Sullivan-Queen, Lois Lane, Lex Luthor, and General Lane. The book features an all-star creative team – in addition to Miller, SMALLVILLE SEASON 11 creators include print cover artist Gary Frank (SUPERMAN SECRET ORIGIN), digital cover artist Cat Staggs and interiors by Pere Perez (BATGIRL).

“Six months after Clark Kent donned the cape and took to the skies to save Earth from Apokolips… enter Season 11!” enthuses Miller. “New allies abound! New enemies afoot! And old friends return where they’re least expected! Pere and colorist Chris Beckett have done a fantastic job of capturing the look of the show and the players, and Gary and Cat are knocking it out of the park on covers. I couldn’t be more excited to help give seasoned viewers and new readers an all-access pass to Clark’s first year in the cape.”

Mass Effect 3 X-Box Demo To Include Temporary Gold Access

Mass Effect 3 is one of the most anticipated game releases of 2012. It will be released on March 6th. The sci-fi RPG series earlier announced that for the first time, the games will feature an online cooperative gameplay mode. That new mode will be showcased in a demo to be made available February 14th. Of course, online cooperative gameplay on X-Box requires a gold level subscription to X-Box Live.

The good news to those who only have a free Silver level account: Microsoft confirmed to BioWare that the demo will temporarily bump up players accounts to the gold level until the launch of the game. The limited time offer is likely a strategy move by Microsoft to encourage more players to purchase Gold level memberships. It is not currently know if the bump will only give Silver level players access to just online gameplay for the demo or if it will give them access to all Gold level features. Although, if Microsoft were really looking to encourage people to sign up for a gold account, letting them use the other gold features while accessing the Mass Effect 3 demo would be a brilliant marketing strategy.

US Government Rules Mutants Not Human

It was reported earlier that Marvel was looking to have their mutant characters ruled as being not human in an attempt to not have to pay large import taxes on their action figures. If X-Men and other mutant characters are considered human beings, then they would classify their action figures under the “doll” category, meaning the tax rate for imports would come be12% as opposed to rate of 6.8% for non-human toys.

Wii U To Be Released This Year

At E3 last year, Nintendo reveled their new console, the Wii U. At the time they also announced a release window of holiday season 2012.

Since that time, there has been little to no news on the new console. many wondered whether or not the release date was even possible and that Nintendo may have to push back the release to later into 2013. Well, it now appears that Nintendo has just been quiet on the subject and has been hard at work on the new console.

Nintendo president Satoru Iwata has confirmed that the company is on target to achieve that release goal. The Wii U will be available to gamers in the United States, Europe, Australia, and Japan in time for the 2012 Christmas buying season. Specific dates are not known at this time, but don’t be surprised to hear some major announcements from Nintendo at this year’s E3.

Netflix No Longer Planning Game Rentals

Last year, Netflix announced that they were planning to split their business. DVD and Blu-Rays would be distributed under a new bsuiness called Qwikster. They had also announced that the Qwikster service would also start distributing video games as a service to its customer base. When Netflix users banded together and universally panned the idea, the service was quickly shelved and scrapped entirely.

One of the lingering questions after the canning of Qwikster was whether or not Netflix would continue to pursue adding video games to their lineup. In a meeting earlier this week, Netflix CEO Reed Hastings gave the final word on the subject. He confirmed that the company will not be adding games to its shipping service. Gamefly can now breathe a sigh of relief as it will no longer have a competitor in Netflix, and will only have to contend with Blockbusters service for the time being.

Blizzard Cancels BlizzCon 2012

Bad news for fans of Blizzard’s annual showcase BlizzCon. The company has announced that they will not be holding the annual event this year due to a heavy release schedule from the company this year.

“We’re excited to be showcasing Blizzard eSports on a truly global stage this year. We’re also heavily focused on getting Diablo III, [World of Warcraftexpansion] Mists of Pandaria, and [Starcraft II expansion] Heart of the Swarm into players’ hands as soon as possible. In light of our jam-packed schedule, we’ve decided to hold the next BlizzCon in 2013.”

“Yeah it’s a bit disappointing because we all really do enjoy being able to ‘open the doors’ so to speak. But, it is an enormous effort by all employees, including our game designers and artists, not to mention customer support and quality assurance, PR, our business departments, and *hot breath on fingernails & shirt rub* Community & eSports to make a BlizzCon happen. In a year when we’re working to release multiple titles (knock on wood) it makes sense to focus our efforts. Also with multiple game releases we just wonder if we’d be at a point with any of them where we’d have anything really big or new or cool to talk about.”

BlizzCon has been held almost every year since 2005 (2006 was the other year to not host a BlizzCon event). The show is the company’s annual event to open up to the media. The show usually features presentations by Blizzard employees, tournaments, contests, and hands-on time with their upcoming games. The company is putting the finishing touches on Diablo 3 as well as preparing anew expansion for thier power house title, World Of Warcraft. Blizzard is also at work designing a new strategy game called Blizzard DOTA as well as an MMO currently titled Titan. They also have a second StarCraft II expansion pack called Legacy of the Void on the way.

Character List For Green Arrow TV Series Revealed

It was recently announced that CW was creating a series based on the comic hero Green Arrow. The series, Arrow, will be a modern retelling of the series. It will be looking to have its own origin and distinguish itself from its comic counterpart. Several characters from the comic’s history have been chosen to appear in the series and a casting sheet describes those characters.

Oliver Queen: A 27-year-old reformed bad boy, who after having spent five years shipwrecked on a tiny, brutally dangerous island in the South China Sea returns to town a different man. Or to be more specific, a tortured, thoughtful master of the bow with a ferocious determination to make a difference.

Dinah “Laurel” Lance: 28 years old, smart sexy, Laurel is a legal aid attorney determined to use her life as a one-woman war against the 1% following the death of her younger sister Sara. A sister, who as luck would have it, just so happened to have died aboard Oliver’s yacht.

Tommy Merlyn: 28 years old and devil-smooth, Tommy is a trustafarian like Oliver, a spectacularly rich young man whose life revolves around parties, clubs, liquor and lots of anonymous sex. Unlike Oliver, he can’t seem to understand his former best friend’s sudden change of lifestyle and direction.

Moira Queen: 48 years old, a beautiful woman, Oliver’s mother Moira is a very wealthy woman who is not used to being shaken. Having remarried during the five years that former husband Robert and Oliver were both presumed dead, Moira has had free rein over the Queen billions. Not surprisingly, she’s deeply interested in learning whether or not Robert will also return unexpectedly, to ruin her present marriage and go over the books with a fine-tooth comb.

John Diggle: 35 years old, African-American, Diggle is really, really big, a former military man who served with the Army Rangers in Afghanistan, and has been a bodyguard for hire for the last four years. Hired by Moira to be Oliver’s chauffeur and protector, Diggle soon finds he is trapped in a battle of wits, as Oliver repeatedly eludes his protection. But in fact, Diggle’s primary conflict is one of loyalty — he has to show that he’s working for Oliver, not Moira, before Oliver will give him a smidgen of trust.

Thea Queen: 17 years old (suggest 17-22 years), Oliver’s Lolita-esque sister, Thea was a 12 year old girl when he went on his infamous yachting voyage — but now she’s a celebutante who’s testing the boundaries of acceptable behavior. Thea loved her big brother with all her heart, and is delighted to have him back in her life — but she’s spreading her wings, and is unprepared for Oliver to become the Bad Cop in the family, restricting her access to boys and drugs.
