GDC 2010: Sony Motion Controller Officially Called PlayStation Move

As the dust settles and smog clears on holiday sales in the game industry, we’re getting more of a feel for the game industry, including who won and lost and in the game of the new motion-controllers. According to industry analyst Michael Pachter, Microsoft’s Kinect outsold PlayStation Move 5 to 1 in the all-important holiday buying month of December.

“About one fifth of PS3 sales included bundles with Sony’s Move controller, suggesting a modest third month,” said Pachter. “About half of Xbox 360 sales included bundles with Microsoft’s Kinect peripheral, as Xbox 360 Kinect console bundles outsold PS3 Move console bundles by 5:1.”

Not only that, but according to Pachter, the top two selling Kinect software titles outsold the top two Move titles by over 13:1.

At CES, Microsoft’s Steve Balmer said M’Soft had sold 8 million Kinect units (he apparently meant “shipped, however), a larger number than the 5 million the company originally predicted.
