In a financial conference call today, Activision/Blizzard announced it is dropping the Guitar Hero game planned for 2011. The company is disbanding its Guitar Hero division in order to focus on more profitable franchises like Call of Duty and World of Warcraft.
“Due to continued declines in the music genre, the company will disband Activision Publishing’s Guitar Hero business unit and discontinue development on its Guitar Hero game for 2011,” the company said in a statement.
Activision Blizzard Inc. said Wednesday it lost $233 million, or 20 cents per share. Net revenue fell to $1.43 billion from $1.56 billion in the previous year.
