According to a report from The Wall Street Journal there was an attack on Sony Japan’s Internet service provider So-Net where someone stole about 100,000 yen ($1,225) of virtual points from users who have been advised to change their passwords.
Between the initial, crippling PlayStation Network intrusion, followed soon by the PSN password reset exploit, the U.S. Federal government inquiries, the Japanese government embargoes thanks to Sony security practices, and now a new intrusion on Sony Japan’s Internet service provider So-Net, things are just not going well.
Sony have issued a somewhat reassuring statement that hey, at least this time wasn’t quite so bad:
“At this point in our investigations, we have not confirmed any data leakage. We have not found any sign of a possibility that a third party has obtained members’ names, address, birth dates and phone numbers,” So-Net reps said. Also keep in mind this does not affect U.S. Sony customers.
