Mass Effect 3 Release Delayed Until 2012

BioWare will get a few additional months of development time on Mass Effect 3 as the company today announced it has pushed back the release of one of the year’s most anticipated titles until early 2012.

Along with some new art released on the Mass Effect Facebook page, an announcement read, “Mass Effect 3 will be released in the first three months of 2012. The development team is laser focused on making sure Mass Effect 3 is the biggest, boldest and best game in the series, ensuring that it exceeds everyone’s expectations.”

Mass Effect 2 was released in January 2010 (January 2011 for PS3 users), with the sequel planned to hit this holiday season. With at least one other enormous RPG — Skyrim — coming out in November, the delay might not be such a terrible thing for gamers who don’t have copious amounts of gaming time available. It also can’t hurt for BioWare to have some extra time to make the conclusion to the Mass Effect trilogy as memorable as possible.

An anime feature film based on the Mass Effect franchise is also expected to be released in 2012, albeit later in the year than March which is the latest Mass Effect 3 will be out, according to the announcement.
