Director James Mangold (Walk the Line, 3:10 to Yuma) has been officially tapped to direct Twentieth Century Fox‘s The Wolverine. Those who have been following the progress of the project may remember that Darren Arnofsky dropped out of the film back in March and the studio has been soul-searching a shortlist of hopeful directors since then, including Doug Liman, Gavin O’ Connor, Antoince Fuqua, Justin Lin and others.
Mangold will be directing off a screenplay being written by Christopher McQuarrie (The Usual Suspects) which will have most of the film taking place in Japan.
The Wolverine, starring Hugh Jackman, is expected to arrive in theaters in 2012.
