5 DC Relaunch Comics I’m Looking Forward To

5 DC Relaunch Comics I’m Looking Forward To

by Randy Pence

DC’s relaunch of everyone of its titles is a big undertaking. A lot of continuity is being changed and reset. This actually makes a good place for new readers to jump in and get involved with comics. I myself am going to be reading as many of these titles as I can and will see what keeps my attention. Of course I’ll probably read the main books like Justice League, Batman, and Green Lantern, but there are many books that will shake things up or just seemed interesting to me and the new relaunch is where I’ll dive headfirst into some of these characters and explore a new world of comics. What I’d like to list here are five of those titles that I’ll be reading in particular that have interested me in some way or another.

Batgirl #1

In one of the boldest moves of the DC relaunch, Barbara Gordon reassumes the mantle of Batgirl. The events have been altered and while The Killing Joke did still happen, Barbara was eventually able to recover from her injuries and become Batgirl again. I’m sure it will be a controversial move and in comics nothing is forever. The Killing Joke was released back in 1988. 23 years is an eternity in the comic book world. But I am interested in this one and look forward to reading it.

Static Shock #1

I first heard of Static Shock as a kid watching the series on Kids WB. I may be wrong but I believe Static was created as a cartoon and then later brought into the comic real ala Harley Quinn. That being said I loved the show back in the day and am really excited to read this comic and see what Static can do in the comic realm.

Swamp Thing #1

I was introduced to Swamp Thing at young age when I watched the short lived cartoon back in the early nineties. It was cheesy but I liked the Swamp Thing character. So mainly for nostalgia reasons I’m gonna pick this one up. I’m sure it’ll be darker and grittier and I’m cool with that. Definitely interested to see where this one goes.

Suicide Squad #1

The whole concept of Suicide Squad seems really cool to me. Several bad guys get hired by the government to take on crazy missions almost bordering on suicidal. At the lead of the group is Harley Quinn, one of my favorite characters in the DC Universe. Plus, who can’t wait to see the cosplay of the new Harley character design on the convention scene?

Blackhawks #1

Sounds like a cool concept to me. A highly trained military unit is given the best technology and vehicles to combat the bad guys and eliminate them before they can harm the world. It basically sounds like DC’s version of GI Joe. GI Joe is my second favorite cartoon of all time behind Transformers. The concept sounds good and the art for the cover looks good so I’ll give this one a try.

So there you have it. Five books from the upcoming DC Relaunch I’m looking forward to reading. I’m going to read most of the #1s anyway and I’ll try to review what I read. But these ones I’m most looking forward to besides the obvious titles. Let me know what books you’re looking forward to in the comments below.
