Mortal Kombat: Legacy on Blu-Ray and DVD November 8th

The popular web series Mortal Kombat: Legacy is coming to Blu-ray and DVD November 8. It all started last year, when a Mortal Kombat-inspired short film appeared on YouTube offering a much grittier motion picture take on the series than any of the previous films had done before.

The short was soon after revealed to be the work of Fame remake director Kevin Tancharoen, and the warm response it received led to the filmmaker being given the go-ahead to develop Legacy as a web series. It launched earlier this year and ran for nine episodes; the Blu-ray collects them all into one place and adds a bit more.

The full specs have not been revealed yet, but High-Def Digest reports the Blu-ray and DVD will both include a featurette on how the series’ focus on violence ties into the storytelling.

Exclusive to the Blu-ray release will be a multi-chapter behind the scenes documentary called “Mortal Kombat Legacy: Expanding the Netherrealm.” There will also be separate galleries that explore each character’s powers and weapons, respectively. The Blu-ray carries a suggested price of $19.98.

The series had a really dark and gritty feel that I felt was good for the Mortal Kombat universe. I’m looking forward to picking this up and seeing the series through in a full high def experience.
