Harry Potter Director To Take On Dr. Who

Variety is reporting that David Yates, who directed the last four Harry Potter films is now working with BBC to bring Dr. Who to the big screen.

He says:

“We’re looking at writers now. We’re going to spend two to three years to get it right,” he said. “It needs quite a radical transformation to take it into the bigger arena.”

He also made it known that the film adaptation of the series would not be a follow up to any of the current television material. It would be it’s own franchise and a fresh approach to the material.

Writers have not been chosen yet, but Yates says they are looking at writers the the US and UK.

“We want a British sensibility, but having said that, Steve Kloves wrote the Potter films and captured that British sensibility perfectly, so we are looking at American writers too,”

What are your thoughts on this? Would a Doctor Who movie work?
