John Barrowman is Captain Jack Harkness In Real Life

John Barrowman, the actor known for portraying Captain Jack Harkness on BBC’s Dr. Who and Torchwood is now a hero in the real world as well.

While staying in a Glasgow’s Radisson Blu hotel, Barrowman tackled a teen who was caught trying to steal from the hotel. The teen made it by security guards and punched one of the attendants. Being in the right place at the right time, Barrowman then tackled the youth and held him until police could show up to apprehend him. Barrowman, who was escorting his parents back to their room after a concert they had all attended, described the situation as such:

“We heard this woman scream and shout, ‘Stop him, stop him.’ We saw this young boy running down the hallway. I told the concierge to chase him and called the hotel operator and told them to block the staircase so we could get him. The lad had tried to get away through the staff elevator and punched the concierge. I grabbed the kid’s ankles, yanked him to the ground and then pulled him out into the hallway. I pinned him down. My tour manager then arrived and the three of us held him down until the police came.”

Then, in a compassionate and classy move, he stated that he would like to offer the youth a job. “It was sad. He was only 14 or 15. I think he was on drugs. But I’d like to find out the boy’s story and give him a second chance. Maybe he could work in the pantomime over Christmas to give him a sense of responsibility.”
