Channing Tatum factored in to Retaliation pushback?

It’s been a few days since the announcement that GI Joe: Retaliation, which was scheduled to open June 29th would be pushed back to March 29th 2013. The main reason given was that the film would be post converted into 3D with a few new scenes filmed to take advantage of the 3D process. Another reason has been cropping up to why the film may have been pushed back: Channing Tatum.

Test screenings of the film brought in two major complaints. The first was the lack of 3D. The other, which may be a bit of a spoiler for those reading, is the lack of dynamic between Duke (Tatum) and Roadblock (Dwayne Johnson). In the film, they are shown to be good friends, but <SPOILER> Duke is killed early in the movie along with other Joe operatives. <END OF SPOILER> The fans who saw the test screening all would have have liked to see more of the bond between the two examined. The studio may now be working to film more scenes featuring the two actors to be included as flashback sequences to help further build and explain their friendship.

It would not be surprising to for them to include more scenes with Tatum. Tatum is one of Hollywood’s rising men at the moment and more involvement with him and the addition of the 3D conversion could mean more box office revenue for Paramount Pictures.
