Wii U online service will not require subscription fee

Nintendo announced at E3 that it will be taking a huge step forward in its online community as it looks to become a major player in the online gaming wars with the Wii U console. They have made an announcement that their online community will not require a subscription fee such as X-Box Live requires. The news was confirmed by company President Satoru Iwata at Nintendo’s recent annual shareholders meeting.

It has not been ruled out to have a fee based service to allow non Wii-U devices to connect to the Nintendo Network. Iwata did make it clear that they believe that the paid subscription was right for the upcoming console. They believe that the freely available online features will encourage sales in both hardware and software. More details will be reported on how this model and the Nintendo Network will work together as they are revealed.
