Robert Downey, Jr. injured on set of ‘Iron Man 3’

Production on Shane Black’s film, Iron Man 3, has experienced a short delay due to an injury on the set. Lead actor Robert Downey, Jr. suffered a minor ankle injury on the set of the film while performing a stunt.

Marvel Studios released a quick statement earlier on the situation:

“Robert Downey Jr. sustained an ankle injury on the set of Iron Man 3 in Wilmington, North Carolina while performing a stunt. There will be a short delay in the production schedule while he recuperates.”

With Marvel’s choice in words of “short delay”, hopefully that menas the injury is not severe and production will not delayed too long. There is no official word on the severity of Downey’s injuries, and no indication has been given that production will be halted long enough to effect the current May 3rd release date of the film. Production on the film began this past June. Best wishes to Mr. Downey as he recovers.

Directed by Shane Black, Iron Man 3 stars Robert Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle, Ben Kingsley, Ashley Hamilton, Guy Pearce and James Badge Dale. The film is slated to be released on May 3, 2013.
