Movie Review: Jay & Silent Bob’s Super Groovy Cartoon Movie

An off the wall movie from an off the wall writer is a good way to describe Jay & Silent Bob’s Super Groovy Cartoon Movie. Kevin Smith takes to the animated medium to bring us an all new adventure featuring our favorite stoners.

Jay and Silent Bob strike it rich when they win the lottery. And what do they do with all that money? They become superheroes. Bluntman and Chronic become the newest heroes of New Jersey. They get a secret base, a butler, gadgets, vehicles, and all the other crime fighting necessities. They even inadvertently create a few super villains that band together to try to stop them.

The usual assortment of Kevin Smith’s dick and weed jokes abound in this one. Using animation is a good way for Smith to get around his usual low budgets for his films. Many of the scenes in the movie would be well beyond his normal budget if attempted in a live action movie. A cartoon movie is a great backdrop for Jay and Silent Bob’s cartoonish antics.

Aside from Mewes and Smith, several celebrities lend their voices to this movie including Eliza Dushku, Neil Gaiman, and Tara Strong (who plays the Cockknocker for Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back using her Bubbles voice from Powerfuff Girls).

All in all, Jay & Silent Bob’s Super Groovy Cartoon Movie is a fun adventure in the View Askew universe that will keep fans of Kevin Smith’s work happy.
