Batman: Assault on Arkham

A lunatic group of criminals is gathered for a very dangerous mission. Everything is off the books and coordinated by a ruthless government agent. This group is known as the Suicide Squad.

Gathered by Amanda Waller, the Suicide Squad is tasked with breaking into Arkham Asylum and obtaining the Riddler’s staff which holds a file containing dangerous secrets that can not be revealed. The have to do this while dealing with the inmates of Arkham, including Harley Quinn’s deranged ex, The Joker. They also have to do this while trying not to draw any attention that would draw suspicion from Batman.

DC and their animated films have consistently delivered and this one is no exception. The animation is as great as ever and the medium allows for a grittier, more violent movie, which this is. There is a good amount of strong language, violence, and sexual content that you may not want young comic fans exposed to. It all makes sense in a story that is focused on a group of Gotham’s most dangerous villains.

Calling it a Batman movie is a bit of an overstatement as Batman is not the main focus of the film and has far less screen time than Harley Quinn or Deadhsot.

The movie is well done and the voice acting is top notch. Kevin Conroy returns as Batman and provides the voice you would expect.  Hynden Walch, a DC animated veteran who previously voiced Starfire on Teen Titans, takes on the role of Harley Quin and delivers a great performance and sounds very much like Arleen Sorkin’s voice from Batman: TAS.

Assault on Arkham is a great story set in the Batman universe focusing on the villains. I definitely recommend checking it out.
