Beckinsale and Biel Officially Cast in TOTAL RECALL Remake, Bill Nighy in Talks

Back in April Kate Beckinsale was offered the role of Lori in the remake of Len Wisemans‘ directed Total Recall, and Jessica Biel was in talks to take on the role of Melina. Today it’s being reported that both of them are officially on board to take these two lead female roles, and Bill Nighy is in talks to take on the role Quatto, the leader of the resistance. They will join Colin Farrell, and that the movie actually starts shooting on Monday. Ethan Hawk and Bryan Cranston also have roles in the film.

According to people close to the project this film will be closer to Phillip K. Dick’s source material than the 1990 Arnold Schwarzenegger version. Farrell plays Douglas Quaid, a factory worker in the latter who begins to believe he is a spy, although he doesn’t know for which side. The movie will ditch the Martian storyline from the original pic and instead involves nation states Euromerica and New Shanghai.

The producer of the film Neal Moritz had this to say about what we can expect from this film,

I think the world that Len Wiseman is creating is incredible. It’s a real world, a real future world, where the cities have just gotten so overcrowded that the cities are just built up, up, up, up. It’s just everything I see on the movie, every pre-vis I see on the movie, every conceptual drawing on this movie that I see just makes me more and more excited. We’re playing it like a real world, but there’s all these technological advancements to the real world, and it’s just really cool. It’s an awesome movie. I’m dying—as a fan of movies, more than anything, it’s a movie that I’m just dying to see.

The film is scheduled for released on August 3rd, 2012. What do you all think about this remake?
