Things just keep getting worse for Sony. Only one week after the first class action lawsuit was filed against Sony due to their massive security breach resulting in a PlayStation Network outage, a second one has been filed in Canada for the amount of $1 billion. Toronto law firm McPhadden Samac Tuovi LLP is filing against Sony Japan, Sony USA, Sony Canada, and “other Sony entities”, saying that due to breach of privacy Sony must pay their client for the “costs of credit monitoring services and fraud insurance coverage for two years”.
Their client is a young lady named Natasha Maksimovic, a 21-year-old from Mississauga. Maksimovic said in a statement, “If you can’t trust a huge multi-national corporation like Sony to protect your private information, who can you trust?” and went on to say, “It appears to me that Sony focuses more on protecting its games than its PlayStation users.”
